Below we have charities who are
working on projects closely related to cruising or other projects of
interest to preserving culture or environment in the remoter places
yachts may visit. In some of the projects below the cruising yacht may
be able to help either directly or indirectly. If you are aware of any
other worthy sites that we should link to, please let us know. |

Endangered Islands Expedition
 |
Endangered Islands Expedition will sail
to remote regions of the Pacific and Indian Oceans to profile indigenous
island communities who remain deeply connected with ancestral
traditions. The objective of the expedition is to present a diverse
range of peoples, perspectives and environments through photography,
film and an archival database unparalleled in quality and content. The
expedition is above all else aimed toward preserving knowledge before it
is lost permanently. |

Maritime
Missions |
Maritime Missions is a way you can help
Pacific communities. You can deliver medical supplies and food to remote
communities by your own yacht, and also get involved in many other
projects that will not only help remote communities but also give an
added dimension to your cruising in remote areas. |

The
Sleavin Family Foundation |
Welcome to the Sleavin Family
Foundation's website. The Sleavin Family Foundation is a non-profit
organization dedicated to promoting maritime safety through education,
awareness, and dialogue. Our Web site is dedicated to the memory of
Mike, Ben and Annie Sleavin
Michael & Judith Sleavin & their children, Benjamin & Annie Rose, left
the United States to circumnavigate the globe in their 47 foot sailboat.
Mike & Judy were very experienced cruisers & racers, and the boat and
all the Sleavins were well-prepared for this voyage. After several years
of wonderful passages and anchorages, and of many incredible experiences
as a family, they were heading to New Zealand to spend several months
ashore. On that passage, a freighter without any navigational lights or
radar on, collided with their sailboat the Melinda Lee, leaving only one
surviving member of this remarkable and loving family. |
